The shortest viable trip is 2 days/1 night to Zagora. To reach the iconic Erg Chebbi dunes near Merzouga you need at least 3 days/2 nights. 4 to 5 day options add Todra Gorge and Aït Ben Haddou.
Yes. Most guides accept children from age 4. Camel rides are short (about an hour) and camps have private tents. Pick a 3 day Merzouga trip rather than overnight Zagora for an easier pace.
October to April. Summer (June to August) can exceed 45 °C in the dunes. Spring and autumn are ideal for star-gazing and comfortable camel treks.
Merzouga (Erg Chebbi) has the postcard-perfect tall orange dunes; it's a longer drive (about 10 hours each way). Zagora is closer (7 hours) but the dunes are smaller and stonier.
